Vacation has passed..
..but the summer goes on.
Not an easy thing to convince yourself of though, looking out the window at this very typical Swedish weather condition, which best can be described by “randomly moving mistified water”. Impossible to protect yourself against, and with a chilling efficiency close to the one of polar winds.
So no use even going out the door today. Which I haven’t.
I can live with it though. Very well, actually. I’ve even longed for it a bit.
After a summer like this, I feel quite ready to face whatever the Nordic late-summer-weather has got in store. Bring it on!
It takes a lot, environment wise, to take me down right now, I promise you that. It’s truly been an awesome summer filled with good friends, old and new, just enough travelling, a fair bit of adventure (both emotional and physical) and this overall extraordinary weather.
OK, actually, maybe it’s just been “great” weather, but in combination with this psyched mood one’s been in, it has sort of almost always felt like the weather gods pretty much have sweeped the way for one.
It’s so easy to sit there, watching the sunset firing up the horizon from the balcony of what in the recent days must be the most prominent apartment in the neighbourhood with it’s own skybar overviewing all of Gothenburg, and convince one self that this is how it’ll be. This is what the weather is going to be like until that day in late October, when it will, like at the flick of a switch, turn into Swedish rainy autumn with a overall heavy risk of early snowfall or random blizzards.
And not only in Gothenburg, where they live with that risk all year round.
By that time though, I’ll make sure to be far, far away from it. I don’t think I’m ready yet to meet the true downside of Swedish autumn weather full on, and avoid being too much affected by it.
Give me a year or two.
Or just a darn good reason to stay.
Until then though, it’s time to go about one’s life that’s quite dynamic at the moment, and continue getting some kind of routines in this place, if that’s what people say is needed to feel “at home”. Time to try out a normal life for a while.
And this thing about getting back to work, what’s that all about? I’ve been trying to reprogram myself now for the first week, and you can’t help thinking: What is it we do with so much time of our lives really? I’ve never felt this kind of “post-vacation-anciety” before, but I guess it’s something worth trying out once or twice. To make you think, and evaluate things.
After all, it’s just work.
And who can say it better than the worlds’ Everyday Cowgirl herself:

Let’s see what the summer’s got left in store for us.
I’m all ears.
